1. Calcium metal is added to the ladle to reduce the metal gas content under vigorous agitation. This produces steel with less voids.

2. It solves the problem of clogging of the nozzles of the casting machine during the steelmaking process and spheres the aluminium oxide inclusions, thus improving the transverse properties of the steel.

3. Calcium metal can be used as a deoxidising, desulphurising, degassing and dephosphorising agent in the melting of steel and pig iron.

4. Calcium metal can be added to lead to increase the hardness of lead, manufacturing battery anode grating and bearing calcium-lead alloy material.

5. Calcium metal has the performance of combining oxygen and nitrogen, it can be used to purify noble gases. And can be also used as a degassing agent for vacuum radio equipment.

6. In non-ferrous metallurgy, calcium metal can be used to remove bismuth and antimony from aluminium and tin.
