Introduction
Ferro silicon magnesium, as its name indicates, it is mainly composed of magnesium, iron, silicon and some other elements. Generally speaking, it can be used as a nodulizing agent or an additive in cast iron and steelmaking industry. It is beneficial for graphite in nodular cast iron to crystallize the spherical shape.
Ferro Silicon Magnesium Uses
JINLI GROUP is one of the biggest cored wire manufacturers in China. We can supply many types of cored wire included FeSiMg cored wire and provide the best service for our clients with our professional accomplishment. In general, for low magnesium nodulizing agent, its Mg content is about 5%. It is usually used in medium frequency furnace melting for 1.5% RE content approximately.
For nearly 6.5% magnesium content, it is mainly used in electric arc furnace (EAF) double melting and other furnaces. It is the Mg series of nodulizing agent. What’s more, it is used widely in this field.
The high-magnesium series nodulizing agent is specifically designed for use in cupola melting, particularly for molten steel with sulphur content 0.08% approximately. The recommended dosage falls about 1.8%. For castings that are susceptible to subcutaneous porosity defects or require controlled aluminum levels in molten steel, a low-aluminum nodulizing agent is preferred.
Pure cerium (Ce) and pure lanthanum (La) as raw materials to produce nodulizing agent with minimal inclusions, resulting in well-rounded graphite spheres after the treatment process. In contrast, yttrium-based heavy rare earth nodulants are ideally suited for large-section castings, as they help delay the decline in nodularity and prevent the formation of chunky graphite. For pearlescent ductile iron, a nodulizing agent containing antimony (Sb) is utilized to achieve the desired microstructure.
Additionally, low-silicon nodulizing agents are optimal for foundries that make extensive use of recycled scrap material, helping to maintain the quality of the molten steel. Finally, nickel-magnesium nodulizing agents are employed for producing high-nickel austenitic nodular iron, ensuring superior performance in specialized applications.
